About Saint-Pierre-des-Corps
As it is notorious for connection train services, the train theme runs throughout the whole town. When you get there, embrace this by taking a trip to visit the Pacific 231, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps’s local steam engine. It’s a wonderful place to take the family, as you’ll learn all there is to know about the train’s glory days. Another great family destination is the Zooparc de Beauval. It is considered by many to be the greatest wildlife park in all of Europe.
As it is situated in the Loire Valley, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps is great for active travellers. You’ll be able to take horse-riding tours in the surrounding areas, or hire bikes to explore. It’s also a great place for walkers and golfers. One of the most popular places to walk (or, rather, climb) is the Touraine Escalade. For something a bit simpler, just take a stroll along the banks of the Loire to truly get a feel for the place that is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Saint-Pierre-des-Corps is wonderful if you are interested in history and architecture. As soon as you arrive, head into town to see the Château de Chambord. It is the biggest and most magnificent in the entire Loire valley. You might also like to visit the town’s waxwork museum, which has displays on all the mistresses of the château! Another beautiful house is the Château and gardens of Villandry, which are wonderful so explore on a sunny afternoon. For more history, explore Château Royal de Blois. This was a particular favourite with the Kings of France during the Renaissance era. And if you are a particularly keen gardener, and you time your visit right, you may be able to visit the Chaumont Gardens Festival, which takes place in the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire.
And don’t forget to sample the wine during your stay! Like many towns in the Loire Valley, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps is surrounded by vineyards producing the finest types of wines, including Cabernet de Saumur, Chinon, Bourgueil, or Touraine Amboise to name but a few.
