About Liege

After you’ve settled into your hotel, head down to the city centre. One of the highlights of your visit will be the Palace of the Prince-Bishops on Place St Lambert. The palace dates back to the sixteenth century, and although it has been the subject of many a restoration project, it is now considered by many to be one of the most beautiful buildings in all of Europe.

To find out more about Liège’s history, take a trip to the Grand Curtius Museum. The collections and exhibitions there are massively informative, and will give you a well-rounded look at local arts and armaments. The building itself is a sight to behold, a large white and red structure dating back to Renaissance times. For more contemporary examples of art, take a trip to the Liège Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. And for even more culture, head to the Royal Opera of Wallonia for a concert.

The centre of the city is the place to be. To really get a feel for life in Liège, head over to the Carre quarter, where the locals love to hang out. There are an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and bars where you can try local delicacies, such as veal kidneys, meatballs in rabbit sauce, and waffles. In the bars, the recommended drink is pèkèt, a juniper-flavoured spirit. And if you’re keen to embrace the local life, end your meal with a smooth Belgian coffee.

If you feel the night is still young, there are plenty of places to continue your party on the market square, or Place du Marché, which is filled with balcony bars and lounges that serve drinks well into the early hours.
