Eurostar to Cannes

Cannes is well known for the glamour and glitz of celebrity and film due to the annual Cannes Film Festival. Once a year, this beautiful city transforms into a place where starlets and seasoned celebrities party the nights away in clubs and aboard expensive luxury yachts. It takes place every May, and the city is swamped by paparazzi and parties, interviews and indiscretions. The red carpet shenanigans all take place at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. It's definitely worth a visit during the festival. You might not be able to get tickets to the actual event, but it's definitely worth it for the atmosphere. However, the world-famous Film Festival isn't the only thing Cannes has to offer the prospective tourist.

About Cannes

Cannes is still a gorgeous city when the celebrities go home. The Promenade de la Croisette offers you some stunning views of white sandy beaches and blue seas, as well as an abundance of palm trees and gardens. You'll also be able to wander in and out of its top-class stores, either for window shopping or to spend a years' salary. Here, you can also visit the decadent waterfront hotels for an afternoon drink, such as the Majestic, the Hilton, and the Carlton.

Cannes also has a rich history, and there are many places to visit for some culture. The neo-baroque Bellini Chapel used to be part of the Villa Fiorentina, which dates back to the 1880s, and is a beautiful place to visit, as is the musée de la Castre. You'll find this in the old château, and you won't be able to miss it: this stunning castle dates back to the eleventh century. Another worthwhile sight to see is the Abbaye de Lérins, with its seven different chapels. These date back to the fifth century. It's also worth taking a stroll around the English Quarter, which can be found east of the Tuquet old town. Here you'll find the Villa Rothschild, which were built in the late 1800s. The gardens are stunning and the architecture even more so.

For day trips, try taking a boat ride to one of the two islands that are along the Cannes bay, one of which is famed for its prison that held "the man in the iron mask".
