About Annecy

Annecy is a beautiful picturesque town in France with plenty of things to see and do. If you're a history buff, there are plenty of sights on offer. One of Annecy's most popular attractions is the Palais de l'Isle, a triangular building which dates back to the 12th century. In the museum you'll find a vast collection of artefacts. The building is surrounded by the River Thiou, so it's also a great photo point. South of the river, at the top of the hill, you'll find the Musée Château d'Annecy, which holds a great many displays of traditional craft works. It's also got incredible views of the Alps. If you're interested in either of these, you'll be able to buy a ticket which will cover the cost of entry for both museums. And if you have a free afternoon, it's a good idea to take a walk around the Pont des Amours, through the flower-lined streets, and onwards to the Champ de Mars.

If it's food you travel for, Annecy has plenty of options for the gourmet lovers. A great place to start is along the Canal du Thiou. After dark, it's a beautiful place to sit outside on a balmy evening and watch the flickering lights reflected in the waters at the quayside. There are many cafes around here, with a selection of local dishes, including steaks, fondues, and blood sausages. For a top level feast, make a reservation at La Maison de Marc Veyrat in Veyrier-du-Lac.

Whether you enjoy adventure on your holidays or just go away to relax, Annecy has it all. Adrenalin junkies will love the range of extreme sports available, including paragliding from off the top of Mont Veyrier, skiing on Chamonix-Mont Blanc, or cycling up Col des Contrebandiers. You can also hire some rollerblades in Jardins de l'Europe. If this all sounds like too much effort, just sit and relax in the sun on Plage Impérial.
