Agen - Beautiful Food and Rich History
If you're very keen on food and drink, there's no better place to visit. The food here is traditional and rustic, so it's an ideal place to immerse yourself in French cuisine. Recommended dishes during your stay are the duck and prune platters. You'll find some great choices of food along the rue des Cornières.
This lovely market town itself is stunning, full of cobbled, winding streets lined with beautiful trees and shrubs. And there's history, too! A great way to spend an afternoon is to take a barge or Penichette along the local canal, the Garonne Canal. Doing so, you'll have a great view of the Cathédrale Saint Caprais, one of Agen's main tourist attractions. And if you're looking for a bit of culture, try whiling away an afternoon in the Musee des Beaux Art where you can view the Goyas. Agen has it all for short breaks.
Agen by Eurostar Trains
Agen is easily accessed by Eurostar train. It is one of the connecting services, meaning you'll need to change trains at some point. Eurostar trains depart from St Pancras International, a very easy-to-get-to destination in London. With speeds of 186 miles per hour, it's an easy journey. From London, you'll be sped across the English countryside and through the channel tunnel to Paris in about two hours and fifteen minutes. Once you've reached Paris Gare du Nord, hop in a taxi to Paris Montparnasse (alternatively, if you're not keen on car travel, you can take the Metro. Get on line 4 going to Porte d'Orléans). Once you're in Paris Montparnasse, there is a number of connecting train services provided by TGV that will take you down south to Agen.
From London to Agen, you'll need to put aside around seven hours and forty minutes. And if you're travelling from Ebbsfleet International, take ten minutes off the journey (Ebbsfleet International is well worth a look purely for the architecture. The structure is an imposing steel and glass building. It can be found just off Junction 2 of the M25). You can also get on the train at Ashford International if you're coming from the South East of England. It's a trek, but it is well worth the journey!
Once you arrive in Agen, you'll have no problems finding your way around. The train station is only five minutes away from the centre of the town. If you don't have too much luggage, you can walk to your hotel easily. Once you've dropped off your bags, you might like to hire a bike rather than travel by foot, which is a great way of seeing this pretty town. Enjoy your stay!
