About Aachen
There are some great sights to see during your visit. One of the most popular tourist attractions there is the Aachen Cathedral. Octagonal in shape, it's listed by UNESCO, and has pride of place in the town. Other attractions include the mineral springs, as Aachen is a Spa town. Ruins around here data back to around one thousand years. You can even take a trip to the Carolus Thermal baths, to take a dip in the curative waters. And if it's culture you're after, and ideal place to visit is the Ludwig Forum for International Art. Day to day, you'll see some great exhibitions, and if you're lucky, you might see some theatre or dance.
If you decide to visit Aachen, one of the best options for travel during your stay is to purchase a Welcome Ticket. This is basically the equivalent of a travel card. At the time of writing you can purchase one for around £13 lasting for three days. This is a good idea if you want to explore the surrounding area. However, if it's just central Aachen you're looking to explore, you won't really need one. Aachen is quite small as far as towns go, so you can just put your walking shoes on and navigate the city by foot.
Aachen by Eurostar Trains
Aachen is very easy to reach on the Eurostar. It's a popular connecting destination, which means there is a change during the journey. Eurostar trains depart from St Pancras International, a very easy-to-get-to destination in London. At speeds of 186 miles per hour, you'll be in Brussels Midi before you can blink. From there, just change platforms and get the next train to Aachen, which will be run by Thalys. London to Brussels midi takes approximately one hour and fifty minutes. The journey in its entirety should take around three hours and forty minutes on average, including the change.
If that journey time seems a little too long, you could always travel from Ebbsfleet international. The journey time will be ten minutes less than if you'd caught the train from St Pancras International.
Your final destination will be Hauptbahnhof Aachen. Even if you do have a lot of luggage, it's not very far away at all from the very centre of town. It's only a twenty minute walk, and you'll get to see a bit of the town doing so. However, if you really want to just relax, taxis are available right outside the station.
Remember: just because it's a connecting destination, it doesn’t mean you have to get two tickets. Eurostar tickets will cover the ticket price from England to the continent. Visit the official Eurostar web site to book your train tickets to Aachen.
